Birria, a Mexican culinary gem, is gaining global recognition for its bold flavors and comforting warmth. Even though this is a traditional dish from the state of Jalisco, Mexico City boasts a vibrant birria scene, with countless taquerías and restaurants offering unique variations of this beloved dish. These are some of our favorite birria restaurants.

 

El Corral del chivo, located meters away from the georgeous Kiosco Morisco in Santa Maria La Ribera neighborhood. This cozy restaurants not only serves great birria, but really good pozole and beef rib tacos.

El Chivito, a block away from the taqueria recentrly awarded with a Michelin star, El Califa de León, this old school birrieria serves amazing grilled tacos, which paired just fine with their micheladas. One of our favorite places to cure a bad hangover in town.

El Pialadero de Guadalajara, A nice restaurant with a classic Jalisco style birria and also pretty good Sinaloa style sea food options. Maybe the nicest birria close by the touristy areas.

La original Birria Don Chuy, where you´ll get the attention of Don Chuy, the owner, it´s a must when wondering aroung Guerrero neighborhood. Open 24 hours a day, so...

 

Purists will say there is no way of getting decent Birria outside the state of Jalisco, but honestly, any Mexico City foodie knows there is amazing food from all over the country in this huge and diverse City. So go out there, explore and try everything you can.
